Pokémon Go Research

To the members of the Champaign Area Pokémon Go Community:

My name is Adam Rusch and I am a student at the University of Illinois.  I am also a Pokémon Go player, like yourselves, who wants to be the very best like no one ever was… 😉

If you are reading this post it’s probably because I sent you the link as a way to introduce my research!  I am very interested in the subjects of collaborative fan communities and social gaming.  I have written about these both in Academic Settings and as a Freelance Journalist.

My latest project is going to be a journalistic piece on the Gamer Communities that have formed around Pokémon Go over the past year.  This includes the ways that people use online resources like The Silph Road, community Facebook Groups, Google Plus Chats, and Private Message Services to find and catch Pokémon.  I also want to look at the way people get together in real life to capture and hold Gyms.

If you’re willing to talk to me, I can assure you that I will do my utmost to protect your privacy and treat you with the utmost respect.  Anything that you want left off the record will not become part of my stories.  If you want to use a gamer handle or pseudonym instead of your real name, I would be happy to use that to identify you.

As always, if you have any questions you can email me directly at adam@rusch.me
